The application window, which opened on April 16, 2025, is set to close on May 8, 2025, with the same date as the last day for fee payment. The exam itself is tentatively scheduled to be held between June 21 and June 30, 2025.

Candidates who meet the specified eligibility criteria must complete their online applications through the official NTA website, ugcnet.nta.nic.in. The application correction window will be available from May 9th to May 10th, 2025.
UGC NET 2025 Important Dates:
The application fee varies by category: Rs. 1150/- for General/Unreserved, Rs. 600/- for OBC-NCL, and Rs. 325/- for SC/ST/PwD/Transgender candidates.
Eligibility, Age Limit, and PhD Admissions
For the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), the age limit is not more than 30 years, with relaxations for reserved categories. There is no upper age limit for the Assistant Professor position. Notably, candidates pursuing a Four-Year/8 Semester Bachelor’s Degree Programme in their last semester/year are also eligible to apply.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has also clarified that NET scores in specific categories (Category 2 & 3) will be used for PhD admissions, with validity for one year. PhD admissions will be based on a combined merit of NET marks and interview/viva voce scores.
Exam Pattern and Syllabus Overview
The UGC NET exam is conducted offline (OMR) in English and Hindi medium and consists of two papers, both comprising multiple-choice questions:
Each correct answer fetches +2 marks, and there is no negative marking. The total duration for both papers is 3 hours. The exam covers 83 subjects, with Paper 1 testing General Aptitude (Teaching/Research Aptitude, Reasoning, Data Interpretation, ICT, People & Environment, Higher Education System) and Paper 2 focusing on the candidate’s chosen subject.
City Intimation Slip and Admit Card Release
NTA will release the UGC NET City Intimation Slip 2025 approximately 10 days before the exam date. This slip will inform candidates about their exam city. The Admit Card will then be available for download online around 3 to 4 days before the examination commences. Candidates must carry their admit card with an affixed passport-size photograph and another for the attendance sheet.
