AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi sparked a controversy by chanting ‘Jai Palestine’ slogan as he concluded his oath as an MP on the second day of the 18th Lok Sabha session in Parliament on Tuesday. His words triggered the BJP’s ire, with Union minister Shobha Karandlaje registering a formal complaint against Asaduddin Owaisi for raising Jai Palestine slogan and not Jai Hind. Shobha Karandlaje has reportedly asked that Owaisi’s speech be removed from the parliamentary record. She also demands that Owaisi retake his oath without the controversial slogan.
As Owaisi defended his remark saying he has not violated any provision of the Constitution, BJP I-T head Amit Malviya also referred to Article 102 of the Constitution and wrote on X: “As per extant rules, Asaduddin Owaisi can be disqualified from his Lok Sabha membership, for demonstrating adherence to a foreign State, that is Palestine.”
Malviya also tagged the Lok Sabha secretariat account and asked to “take note”.
