How the Scam Unfolded
The elaborate scam came to light when a victim, Chandreshwar Singh, filed a complaint alleging that Sanjeev had duped him of ₹15 lakh. Sanjeev had convinced Singh that he was a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and needed money for a land registry.
When Singh realized he had been cheated, he approached the Kalyanpur police station. During the investigation, police found that Sanjeev had no official connection with the police department.
A Well-Crafted Deception
Sanjeev had gone to great lengths to maintain his facade. He had procured a police uniform, a fake ID card, and even a rubber stamp. He had also managed to convince several people of his authority, including some in the police department itself.
Police Raid and Seizure
Acting on a tip-off, police raided Sanjeev’s residence and seized a trove of incriminating evidence, including:
- Multiple police uniforms
- Fake ID cards
- Rubber stamps
- A police diary
- A luxury car
A Warning to the Public
This incident serves as a stark reminder for the public to be vigilant and wary of individuals who claim to be in positions of authority. It’s crucial to verify the credentials of anyone seeking financial assistance or favors, especially if they are making outlandish claims.
