The elaborate scam came to light when a victim, Chandreshwar Singh, filed a complaint alleging that Sanjeev had duped him of ₹15 lakh. Sanjeev had convinced Singh that he was a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and needed money for a land registry.
When Singh realized he had been cheated, he approached the Kalyanpur police station. During the investigation, police found that Sanjeev had no official connection with the police department.
