Agra. #Agra News- Recently, the tragic deaths of two students in a basement during the rains in Delhi prompted the Agra Development Authority (ADA) to launch a crackdown on basements. Complaints regarding several basements have been filed at the ADA office, yet the regional junior engineer has shown little concern. Instead, they appear to be merely fulfilling formalities during site visits. A case in point is Ghalibpura in the Nai Ki Mandi area, where a complaint was filed on August 30, but no action has been taken to date.
The newly appointed Vice President, Arunmoli, has issued strict orders against illegal constructions. Despite this, the ongoing campaign against basements has yielded little progress. On August 30, Mohammad Ansar, a resident of Nai Ki Mandi, reported illegal basement activities in Ghalibpura. His complaint stated that the basement was originally approved for parking, but it is now being used for shoe trading, involving 20-25 workers at any time. This poses a constant danger to the laborers working inside.
Although junior engineer Mohammad Yameen visited the site, he merely warned the builder without taking any serious action. This raises questions about the efficacy of the Vice President’s directive, which mandates resolution of complaints within three days. Instead, the junior engineer seems to be content with superficial responses to illegal constructions.
It remains to be seen whether the junior engineer will issue any formal notice to the builder for the basement’s unauthorized use or continue to issue only verbal warnings. As of now, the Vice President’s strict measures appear to have no effect on the junior engineers.
What Does Junior Engineer Mohammad Yameen Say?
When asked about the situation, junior engineer Mohammad Yameen stated, “I visited the site regarding the complaint and warned them against conducting shoe trading in the basement.” When questioned about why a notice was not issued, he responded, “Print what you want; I haven’t issued any notice yet.”
